BIOGRAPHY AND RESEARCH IMPACT
As research associate with the fungicide resistance group at the Centre for Crop and Disease Management (CCDM) I am engaged in research investigating molecular interactions of fungicide resistant pathogens in Australian crops. I’m also committed to engaging growers and agronomists to raise awareness of fungicide resistance and promote best practices in fungicide resistance management across the industry.
My career is grounded in plant pathology and agricultural biotechnology, having been involved in genetic breeding and molecular mapping of crop disease resistance genes at various institutions, since earning my PhD in 2009. I contributed significantly to the Centre for Crop and Disease Management’s Barley Powdery Mildew and Net Blotch programs to improve genetic resistance in barley, earning a Curtin University Excellence in Research Team Award for Industry Engagement.
Most recently I was the extension coordinator for the Australian Fungicide Resistance Extension Network (AFREN), where my passion for science communication and engagement was enhanced as part of a national collaboration that was recognised as a finalist in the 2025 Engagement Australia Excellence awards, for which the AFREN project received a high commendation for industry engagement.
Beyond research, I've also been actively involved in science outreach and the citizen science project "Mildew Mania", aimed at engaging primary and secondary students in a real world scientific research project.
