He has a multidisciplinary education background in mining, civil, and solid mechanics (soil and rock) engineering. He has more than 20 years’ experience in academic research, teaching, administration and consulting to industry. He has successfully completed several granted projects and numerous publications including books, book chapters, papers, and guidelines in the fields of geotechnical and geomechanics, underground (subsurface) excavation, fluid flow and hydro-mechanical coupling, monitoring and back analysis. To date he has produced more than 270 publications: 5 books, 4 book chapters, 110 refereed journal papers, 125 peer-reviewed conference papers, 80 guidelines and engineering design reports. He has been involved over 23 research grants and funded engineering projects including national competitive research to consulting engineering projects. He served as the head of mining engineering discipline in Amirkabir university of technology, acting head of discipline and postgraduate coordinator in Curtin university since 2014. He is an Australian Research Council (ARC) projects assessor, member of ISRM Commission on Design Methodology, editorial board member of Tunnelling and underground space technology journal (TUST), Iranian Journal of Rock Mechanics, journal of Tunnelling and underground space Engineering (TUSE), and reviewer for numerous international journals and conferences. With his multidisciplinary background, he has much been active collaborator with professionals from worldwide highly ranked universities. He has supervised and co-supervised 50 BSc. 9 Ph.D. and 71 master research thesis and currently the principal supervisor for 7 PhD and 3 MPhil students. His contributions to the field are well recognized; he has received high citations and download in “Tunnelling and underground space technology–TUST” and “International journal of rock mechanics and mining science –IJRMMS” as well as many others.
