BIOGRAPHY AND RESEARCH IMPACT

Dr Yakubu H. Yakubu is a Lecturer in Nursing and Clinical Educator at Curtin University, based at the Kalgoorlie campus within the Goldfields University Department of Rural Health. He is a Registered Nurse with more than 16 years of clinical and academic experience across Ghana, New Zealand, and Australia, with expertise spanning critical care, aged care, telehealth, and nursing education.

In his role, Yakubu supports the development and delivery of high-quality rural clinical training experiences for nursing students, including placement coordination, clinical facilitation, and supervision capacity building. He works closely with rural health services, aged-care providers, and community organisations to enhance student learning, promote interprofessional practice, and support rural workforce sustainability across the Goldfields region.

His research focuses on the rural health workforce and health service development, nursing research, and access to care in underserved contexts. His broader research interests include mental health and wellbeing among marginalised older adults, critical care nursing competence, rural and Indigenous health promotion, and global health inequities. He has a strong interest in the social determinants of health, and his work aims to inform policy, strengthen health workforce capacity, and support culturally grounded and context-responsive healthcare strategies in rural and remote environments.
