BIOGRAPHY AND RESEARCH IMPACT

Dr Charlene Waryah is a Research Development Advisor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Curtin University. She provides strategic advice and hands-on support to researchers seeking competitive funding, with particular expertise in Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) schemes. Her work spans funding strategy, eligibility advice, proposal development, consumer involvement, and grantsmanship training, helping researchers build competitive MRFF applications aligned with national health and medical research priorities.

Prior to joining Curtin's Research Office, Charlene spent more than 15 years in biomedical health research across Australia and the United States. Her research career focused on cancer therapeutics and CRISPR-based epigenome editing resulting in high impact peer-reviewed publications, over 1,000 citations, successful involvement in competitive grant funding, and extensive experience supervising higher degree research students.

As a researcher, supervisor and grant contributor, she brings first-hand experience of securing competitive funding, publishing research, mentoring emerging researchers, and delivering research with real-world health impact.
