BIOGRAPHY AND RESEARCH IMPACT

Dr. Chen Wang is a Lecturer in the School of Civil and Mechanical Engineering, having joined the faculty after earning her Ph.D. from the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) in August 2023. Prior to her current role, she served as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at UTS. Her expertise encompasses advanced membrane synthesis, nanofiltration, organic solvent nanofiltration, lithium recovery, and the application of machine learning for optimizing membrane performance. To date, Dr. Wang has authored 29 high-impact journal papers, including publications in the Journal of Membrane Science, Desalination, and Separation and Purification Technology. Impressively, she is the first or co-first author on 13 of these papers, with 90% of them appearing in JCR Q1 journals. Her research contributions also include 1 patent and a book chapter. Her work has garnered 1300 citations and an H-index of 20, according to Google Scholar.

Dr. Wang's academic excellence has been recognized through numerous awards, including the 2024 MSA ECR travel award, the 2023 UTS FEIT Dean's List Outstanding Thesis Award, the 2022 Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Student Abroad, the 2022 Membrane Society of Australasia (MSA) Student Award, the 2022 MSA Travel Award, and the UTS Vice-Chancellor Postgraduate Research Student Conference Fund in both 2022 and 2021. She was also the Winner of the 2022 UTS Faculty of Engineering and IT HDR Excellence Award and the Winner of the 2022 UTS Women in Engineering and IT HDR Award. Dr. Wang has presented her research at several international conferences, earning accolades such as the Best Early Career Researcher (ECR) Oral Presentation Award at MSA-ISPT 2023 and the 3rd Prize Best Student Oral Award at the 5th MEMDES Conference.

Dr. Wang was featured in a film by the Australian Water Association and supported by the Australian Water Association National Foundation Australia-China Relations (NFACR) grant. She is the lead and co-investigator for three research grants: the CIET seed funding supported by the Resources Technology and Critical Minerals Trailblazer Program, the Faculty of Science and Engineering Research Grant Program 2025, and Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA) for the operational phase of the Alkimos Seawater Desalination Plant.

Dr. Wang has also been actively engaged in professional networks and academic communities within her field. She served as an Early Career Editor for the Desalination Journal, an Editorial board member for Desalination and Water Treatment Journal, and an Early Career Researcher (ECR) member of the Membrane Society of Australasia. Additionally, she has contributed as a guest editor for esteemed journals, including Membranes and Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology.
