BIOGRAPHY AND RESEARCH IMPACT
Dr Edza Aria Wikurendra is a Lecturer in the Department of Health Sciences, Faculty of Humanities and Health Sciences, Curtin University Malaysia. He also serves in a research and development leadership role within the faculty. His academic work focuses on environmental health, environmental management, waste management, environmental sustainability, circular economy, biomass, renewable energy, and public health.
He holds a PhD in Environmental Management from the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Hungary, a Master of Environmental Health from Universitas Airlangga, Indonesia, and earlier qualifications in Environmental Health from Indonesia. His research seeks to connect environmental science, public health, and sustainable development through applied studies addressing real-world environmental and community health challenges.
Dr Wikurendra’s research is positioned at the intersection of environmental health, waste valorisation, circular bioeconomy, occupational exposure, emerging contaminants, and sustainable environmental management. His work explores how environmental risks can be reduced while transforming waste and biological resources into useful products, including biomass-based materials, renewable energy inputs, biostimulants, adsorbents, and other circular-economy solutions.
He has strong interests in applied and translational research that supports community well-being, environmental sustainability, and policy-relevant innovation, particularly in Southeast Asian and low- and middle-income settings. His recent academic activities include research on waste-to-resource technologies, air pollution and respiratory health, occupational health risks, food waste valorisation, biochar, black soldier fly larvae-based bioconversion, and emerging pollutants such as PFAS and microplastics.
Dr Wikurendra has received several recognitions, including the Green Talents Award 2022 from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the European Forum Alpbach Scholarship 2023, the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship for doctoral studies, and the Masyarakat Berprestasi Unggulan Scholarship for master’s studies. His broader academic mission is to develop evidence-based, practical, and collaborative solutions for healthier environments and more resilient communities.
