BIOGRAPHY AND RESEARCH IMPACT

I am a creative writing researcher working at the intersection of fantasy literature, feminist literary criticism, and practice-led research. My work asks how fantasy narratives construct and contest systems of power through mythology, worldbuilding, narrative authority, and representations of intimacy and identity.

My current MPhil research investigates how genre conventions in Young Adult Romantic Fantasy render coercive control legible as romance rather than harm, using a creative-critical methodology that combines original fiction with textual analysis. The project's novella, Where Dying Things Bloom, tests whether fantasy romance can retain its emotional intensity while grounding intimacy in consent and mutual care rather than domination.

I intend to extend this work into doctoral research testing fantasy fiction as an active site where myth, objects, institutions, and knowledge are produced and contested, rather than inherited as fixed lore, drawing on anthropological and archaeological methods, including social memory, object biography, and craft transmission. This is informed by postgraduate training in heritage materials conservation, which grounds the project's engagement with material deterioration, condition history, and the cultural significance of wear.
