BIOGRAPHY AND RESEARCH IMPACT
My research fits into the broad category of Physical Chemistry. Within that broad umbrella, I focus on crystallization and interfacial chemistry (in particular, adsorption). These two areas often overlap as one theme of my research is in impurity effects on crystallization and the mechanisms of those impacts. Understanding impurity effects (or additive effects) is important for the future design of additives for crystal modification application. In addition, I am interested in understanding the fundamental drivers of crystallization and the role of solvent in that process. Finally, I am also interested in the crystallization of solids that have practical consequences (eg calcium oxalate for understanding kidney stone formation) and learning about these mechanisms of formation for possible future mitigation strategies.
