BIOGRAPHY AND RESEARCH IMPACT
Professor Anne-Marie Eades is a Noongar woman, registered nurse, and leading academic in Nursing at Curtin University, Perth. A public health and health services researcher, her work centres on co-design and Indigenous methodologies, and women's and maternal health. Over a 25-year career in health — 19 years focused on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health — she has secured more than $10.49 million in research funding since 2019. This includes roles as Chief Investigator A on an MRFF grant, CIB and co-chair of the Aboriginal Advisory Committee on a $4.69 million MRFF/NHMRC First Peoples co-designed birth cohort study, and CI on a $4.99 million MRFF project improving health and wellbeing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mothers and babies (2022–2025). She has also held Chief Investigator roles on NSW Government and partnership grants, an Associate Investigator position on a $3 million NHMRC program, and was awarded a Scientia Fellowship at UNSW. She currently leads "Closing the Vaccine Gap: Understanding and Overcoming Vaccine Decline in Aboriginal Pregnant Mothers, Babies and Adolescents in Western Australia," as Chief Investigator A, funded through the Stan Perron Charitable Foundation's Health Research Grants program.
Prof Eades' research has highlighted the central role of family in supporting the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, including through her MRFF-funded work on COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women during and after pregnancy, and her earlier Indigenous-led Live Strong project supporting dialysis patients in Darwin. Her findings have been published in leading journals including the Lancet, BMJ, BMC, Medical Journal of Australia, and Women and Birth.
She maintains strong partnerships with community-controlled organisations and institutions across WA, NSW and beyond, including Telethon Kids, the George Institute, Menzies Health Research Institute, and the Sax Institute. Her professional contributions include service on the NHMRC Expert Advisory Panel for Indigenous Maternal Health, and the WA Aboriginal Health Ethics Committee. She is on the Aboriginal Leadership Committee as a member for the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCIRS), a member of the Western Australian Aboriginal Immunisation Network Steering Committee (AINSC), and a current board member of South Coastal Babbingur Mia, alongside ongoing mentorship of Aboriginal women researchers and community members in qualitative research and leadership.
