BIOGRAPHY AND RESEARCH IMPACT

As a Curtin Professor I aim to foster networks to support innovative approaches to research to create meaningful policy and action in three areas:

Impactful interdisciplinary nutrition and food security research with vulnerable groups

Building on my research and partnerships I collaborate to improve food and nutrition security. I presented at the inaugural Global Foodbanking Network meeting of 41 countries in September 2024 then developed a Massive Online Open Course  edX Food Relief Nutrition Essential: Policies and Practical Tools. I will strengthen new collaborations for sector-wide research opportunities with experts in the field. I work with my  colleagues and external stakeholders across the globe to progress advocacy and action on food insecurity.

Strengthen interdisciplinary mental wellbeing-related research and interventions

Mental well-being is an urgent and challenging global priority critical to overall health. I am commited to a priority driven research agenda with the Act Belong Commit/ABCs of Mental Health international partners, and key local partners to extend research impacts in different settings and target groups. Collaborations with 65 authors from over 20 countries has led to a book on the ABCs of Mental Health Promotion and recent visiting fellowships to share learnings internationally.

Create new cross-university, cross-country academic advocacy alliances to deliver impactful campaigns for vulnerable groups Working with like minded people to create expert panels on nutrition, food security, Aboriginal health, and mental well-being, we will create a powerful collective voice to extend advocacy.
