BIOGRAPHY AND RESEARCH IMPACT

Domenik Wolff-Boenisch is an Associate Professor in the School of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Curtin University and an aqueous geochemist with more than 30 years of postgraduate research and professional experience across academia, industry, and environmental consulting. He holds a PhD in Environmental Geochemistry and an MSc in Geology from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, Germany. Before joining Curtin University, he held research positions at the University of Iceland and the University of California campuses at Merced and Riverside. ,

A significant part of his career was spent in Iceland, where he directed the Icelandic contribution to the international CarbFix consortium. In this role, he led laboratory research on carbon mineral sequestration in basaltic formations, supervised postgraduate researchers, established a kinetics laboratory, and coordinated scientific collaboration with international consortium partners. This work contributed to demonstrating the feasibility of mineral carbonation as a pathway for permanent geological carbon storage. ,

He has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed publications, including articles in Science, Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta, Chemical Geology, Applied Geochemistry, International Journal of Greenhouse Gas Control, International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, Journal of Energy Storage, and Energy & Fuels. He has also served as Associate and Guest Editor for Applied Geochemistry.
