BIOGRAPHY AND RESEARCH IMPACT

I am Professor Pieter Eichhorn, a cancer researcher at the Curtin Medical Research Institute and Dean of Research Infrastructure at Curtin University. My research seeks to understand why cancers become resistant to therapy and how this knowledge can be harnessed to develop new treatments for patients.

My laboratory investigates the molecular mechanisms that regulate cancer cell survival, with a particular focus on ubiquitin signalling, targeted protein degradation, RNA therapeutics, and precision oncology. We combine fundamental biology with translational research to develop innovative therapeutic strategies for breast and lung cancer, with the ultimate goal of moving discoveries from the laboratory into clinical application.

Alongside my research program, I serve as Dean of Research Infrastructure at Curtin University, where I lead the strategic development of research infrastructure that enables world-class discovery across a broad range of disciplines. My portfolio includes major research capabilities in genomics, advanced imaging, high-performance computing, secure digital research environments, and national collaborative research infrastructure (NCRIS). I also oversee strategic investment in research infrastructure through programs such as the Australian Research Council's Linkage Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities (LIEF) scheme, and support capability development across diverse areas including mining and resources, agriculture and crop improvement, defence, radio astronomy, and large-scale health and patient data resources.
