Dr Michael POMPEIA has a BSc Hons. in Agri-science & Technology, an MSc. in Marketing Management and a PhD in Political Branding. He is a Chartered Institute of Marketing UK (MCIM) member. He is presently a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Management at Curtin Mauritius. Dr Pompeia is an active academic researcher who has participated in various local and international conferences in the field of Marketing, Entrepreneurship and business development as a panellist or keynote speaker. His publications are in various fields: Political Branding, Social Media Usage, Ecotourism, and Entrepreneurship.
He has been the Head of Operations of SME Mauritius Ltd from 2019 to 2023. This institution is the National Agency for the Promotion of Entrepreneurship in Mauritius. As part of his main responsibility as head of operations was to prepare policies for the development of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises; develop training programmes for aspiring and existing entrepreneurs; organise networking sessions among MSMEs; prepare buyers-sellers Meetings and organise fairs for MSMEs to promote their talents, also to execute the different support schemes dedicated to MSMEs. Dr Pompeia has also been the chairperson for the National SME Observatory from 2019 to 2021. In addition, Dr Pompeia’s resume showcases more than fifteen years of experience across well-known organisations in the private sector in Mauritius and the Indian Ocean region. Over the years, he has accompanied hundreds of entrepreneurs to start their businesses or grow existing ones. He is passionate about unlocking future growth potential.
He launched in February 2022 a book for aspiring entrepreneurs with the following title: “Selling Your Dream: Conversation with an Entrepreneur”. This book is far from the purely academic angle; it provides practical examples and exercises on starting a sustainable business locally. To date, he has received various awards: three (3), the first prize for the Shell Environment Award and Twice (2), the Teaching Excellence Award at Curtin Mauritius. He was among the Five winners of the Most Outstanding Young Person 2022 (TOYP) in the category of Business, Economic and /or entrepreneurial accomplishment organised by JCI Mauritius
