BIOGRAPHY AND RESEARCH IMPACT
Stephanie Vialle is a research and teaching academic in the School of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Curtin University. Her multidisciplinary expertise spans geochemistry, rock physics, and subsurface modelling, with a particular focus on understanding the complex physical and chemical processes that govern the behaviour of the Earth's subsurface.
She holds a Master’s degree in Applied and Fundamental Geochemistry and a PhD in Geochemistry from the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris (IPGP) and Université Paris Cité. She subsequently undertook postdoctoral research at Stanford University through the Stanford Global Climate & Energy Project, working at the interface of rock physics and environmental geochemistry.
Stephanie’s research focuses on developing innovative numerical tools and interdisciplinary frameworks to understand and predict subsurface reactivity. Her work addresses critical challenges at the intersection of energy and the environment, including carbon storage and mineralisation, green and natural hydrogen, subsurface energy storage, and environmental remediation. She has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, including in Geophysical Research Letters, Journal of Geophysical Research, International Journal of Greenhouse Gas Control, and Journal of Energy Storage. Her research portfolio includes industry- and government-funded projects that translate fundamental geoscience into practical approaches for energy storage and environmental management. She also contributes to the broader research and innovation landscape through advisory roles with CSIRO in Energy Storage and Mineral Systems and as a Subject Matter Expert in Carbon Mineralisation for the Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia (MRIWA).
Stephanie has extensive teaching experience across a broad range of Earth science disciplines. She was trained through the French École Normale Supérieure (ENS) for the highly selective Agrégation in Physics and Chemistry. At Curtin University, she teaches Introduction to Geophysics to students in Geology and Environmental Sciences across undergraduate and Graduate Diploma programs. Her teaching integrates fundamental Earth science concepts with quantitative and applied approaches to understanding the Earth's subsurface.
