BIOGRAPHY AND RESEARCH IMPACT
I have been a physiotherapist in the area of neurological rehabilitation since 2004. My research interests are in the area of activity based rehabilitation, utilising functional electrical stimulation to improve function and participation in children with neurological injuries and conditions. Between 2012 and 2017, I was the Clinical Co-ordinator/Lead of the iRehab program - a sub-acute multidisciplinary rehabilitation team at Princess Margaret Hospital, now Perth Children's Hospital. Within this program, I worked actively to ensure that research was embedded within clinical practice thereby ensuring active knowledge translation to promptly improve treatment outcomes.
I am the co-founder and director of Therapists Abroad Inc (trading as Get Equip'd) - a not for profit, Public Benevolent Institution. We aim to support the training and provision of equipment for children with disabilities in Miri, Malaysia. We aim to build the capacity of the local community through our partnership with local disability service providers and local industry. From 2018, Therapists Abroad Inc provides hands on training opportunities for physiotherapy and occupational therapy students. This is achieved through richly interactive and personalised fieldwork placements under the guidance of experienced clinicians through our volunteer Therapists Abroad network.
I am the Clinical Lead and Founder of The Healthy Strides Foundation - a not for profit community organisation that provides intensive, multidisciplinary, evidence and activity based rehabilitation for children and young adults with neurological conditions and injuries.
My research interests are in the area of neuro-rehabilitation, functional electrical stimulation, intensive therapies, participation, developing activity based therapies and interventions, single subject research designs, consumer involvement and knowledge translation. I am the co-host of the ResearchWorks Podcast - a podcast designed to supported clinicians in implementing evidence based interventions in their practice.
