BIOGRAPHY AND RESEARCH IMPACT

ARC Future Fellow, FIEAust, CPEng, NER

Professor Wensu Chen is Director of Centre for Infrastructural Monitoring and Protection (CIMP) and an ARC Future Fellow in the School of Civil and Mechanical Engineering at Curtin University. He is a leading researcher in structural engineering and infrastructural protection, with focus on developing sustainable and resilient infrastructure against multi-hazards (natural and man-made hazards); novel structures and materials; FRP-based structures; structural assessment and strengthening; prefabricated modular structures. He serves as Associate Editor of International Journal of Protective Structures, Editorial Board member of International Journal of Impact Engineering (Q1 Journal), Construction and Building Materials (Q1), Fellow of Engineers Australia, Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng), Committee member of Structures Panel WA Division. He received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees at Tianjin University, and then worked as a design engineer in industry for three years. After that, he obtained his Master's degree from the University of Melbourne and PhD in structural engineering from the University of Western Australia.

Professor Chen was awarded ARC Future Fellowship in 2021 and ARC DECRA Fellowship in 2016. He has been Chief Investigator for multiple ARC grants, CRC projects (iMOVE and SmartCrete) and Innovation Connection project, as well as engages with industry and government bodies (e.g., DEMIRS WA Government, AusIndustry, Main Road WA, Engineers Australia Cyclone Taskforce, Engineers Australia Building Safety Taskforce, etc). He serves as grant assessor for Australian Research Council, UKRI, Czech Science Foundation, Croatian Science Foundation, Chilean National Fund, NSW Space Research Network and United Arab Emirates.

We are seeking highly motivated PhD students to join our research centre (CIMP). Full PhD scholarships are currently available. For futher information, please contact Professor Chen via wensu.chen@curtin.edu.au .

Research/consultancy/testing opportunities are welcomed. Please see various equipment available in our centre.
