BIOGRAPHY AND RESEARCH IMPACT

I operate in dual settings, seamlessly bridging industry and academia to drive innovation and development with a keen focus on advancing energy transition pathways. He has the following two roles at Western Australia School of Mines (WASM).

Leadership Role: Director of Research, Western Austrlian School of Mines (WASM)

In this role, I work alongside talented research group leaders across our four core disciplines, Mining Engineering, Metallurgy Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Energy Engineering. Together, these fields place WASM in a unique position to tackle the complex, interconnected challenges facing the resources and energy sectors, from responsible mineral extraction and advanced materials processing to sustainable chemical systems and the global energy transition. My focus is on facilitating and strategizing the School's research priorities for greater collective impact, aligning our strengths, identifying strategic opportunities, and ensuring our research effort is cohesive, purposeful, and well-positioned to address these challenges at scale.

A key priority is building strong, meaningful partnerships with industry and government, nationally and internationally, to ensure that the outstanding work being done across WASM translates into real-world outcomes and drives innovation where it is needed most.

Academic Role: Associate Professor in Energy Engineering (WASM)

I specialize in fluid-rock interactions, micro-scale fracture mechanics, reactive transport, and rock flow dynamics. I apply these expertise areas to enable underground hydrogen storage, particularly in Porous Media, Salt Caverns, and Lined Rock Caverns, as well as contributes to the field of CO2 Geological Storage.

The objectives of my research encompass two key goals: 1) facilitating and enabling underground hydrogen storage demonstration projects in Australia and globally, and 2) sequestering CO2 in subsurface to effectively reduce carbon footprints. I am currently leading 4 research projects on Underground Hydrogen Storage (UHS) in Porous Media funded by Future Energy Export CRC by partnership with Beach Energy and BP over AU$1.4M.

I was  also awarded the Australian International Hydrogen Fellowship funded by the Australian government to support the International Hydrogen Research Collaboration Program led by CSIRO. I coordinated and collaborated with industry professionals, academics, and policymakers from over 50 organizations worldwide as a Subtask Lead under IEA-Hydrogen-TCP Task 42 Underground Hydrogen Storage from 2022 to 2025.
